## Chapter 18 The end of childhood (pp.127-130)
- Technology and environment
- Technology: something we didn't have when we were growing up, but now we do
- Environment: what was already there in the growing season
- One generation's technology becomes the next generation's environment
>In extreme simplification, the new generational divide within the company is a way of paying attention. Younger people spread their attention in many directions, while older colleagues tend to focus on one or at most two tasks.
> Hearing music on his iPod, a flood of text messages sent and received, his 24-hour social media site, and the occasional video game next to his history homework window. The generation that grew up in this environment has what former Microsoft vice president Linda Stone called "continuous attention divergence."
- The state of "continuous divergence of attention" in the environment experienced by the new generation is the opposite of the flow state
- Engineers who do not enter the flow state not only cannot exert their power, but also cannot fit into a team composed of various generations and united.
- Explain the labor contract so that it is understood that the continuous diversion of attention beyond the limits is not acceptable
→ At the end of the chapter, there is a story about e-mail, and I thought of a summary that "the new generation values bandwidth over productivity", but I feel that the translation is too paraphrased, so I will write it at the comment level.
→ I somehow understood the need to communicate with consideration of the destination and frequency of "notifications" using business chat tools such as Teams, ChatWork, and Slack. Based on all chapters, you will respect people of different generations who have experienced different environments, and you will also respect yourself in the future. I will not be young forever.
